Fabrice Santoro, min stora tennisidol, förlorade som väntat i andra omgången av US Open mot James Blake. Men först efter fem tuffa set och en kamp mot kramp såväl som mot stjärnan på andra sidan nätet. Efter 6-4 till Blake i femte och avgörande set handlade det som så ofta förr inte om resultatet, utan om hur den 34-årige magikern från Paris hade lekt fram sin tennis på banan. Efter matchen blev spelarna stående vid nätet. Santoro uppger att han tackade Blake för att han haft en härlig kväll och mycket kul på banan. Blake hade på presskonferensen följande att säga om Santoro:"He is a credit to the game. I'm in awe of someone that at 34 years old, as many Grand Slams as he's played, to go out there and battle for five sets, in singles and doubles, and probably in the mixed, too. To play that many matches, and the brand of tennis that he plays. He's not an Ivo Karlovic who goes out there and gets 50 free points on his serve; he's got to work for his points. It's incredible to be doing that still at this age. I hope my body can hold up the way his does."
